A tired, uninspiring garden needed a makeover and our client wanted a better approach to their home with space to sit at different times during the day that would take advantage of the fantastic views beyond.
There were existing materials that needed to be brought into the design, reclaimed railway sleepers, yorkstone walling and Indian sandstone setts. Low maintenance was required, as is often the case and our client wanted the planting style to be similar to York Gate in Leeds with a mixture of flowering perennials and strong clipped topiary and architectural evergreens such as Yucca gloriosa.
The result was a simple but effective circular design that holds your attention despite the competition from the surrounding countryside.
Tumbled Indian sandstone slabs were used for the paved areas to match the setts that edged the gravel paths.Cotswold gravel was chosen for the main path as it is angular and easy to walk on with Golden flint chosen for the centre which will be softened over time by the growth of the plants installed within it.
The old lamp standard was removed and new lighting installed around the garden to give more of a balance at night, using two lower Teak bollard lights and including some spotlights to pick out key plants (In some of the photographs you may notice some temporary solar lights, now removed).
